What actually happens in a first session

The single most common thing men say before they book is a version of "I don't really know what to expect." Fair enough. Here's the honest version.

You sit on a chair, not a couch. There's no clipboard being scribbled on while you talk, no silence engineered to make you uncomfortable. The first session is mostly you talking and me listening — about what's brought you in, what you've already tried, and what a good outcome would actually look like for you.

The first ten minutes

We'll cover the practical stuff briefly — confidentiality, how sessions work, what happens with notes. Then we get into it. You tell me, in your own words, what's going on. You don't need to have it organised. Most people don't. Part of the job is helping you find the shape of it.

By the end of the hour

I'll usually share what I'm noticing, and we'll agree on a rough direction — what we might work on, and roughly how. You're under no obligation to come back. If it doesn't feel like the right fit, I'd genuinely rather you found someone who is, and I'll happily point you at someone I trust.

That's it. No homework you'll resent, no jargon, no couch. Just an hour, a calm room, and a person who's done this for a while.
